Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, the 2021 Joint Graduation Keynote Speaker

On Saturday, 24 July, the second cohort of ALU Rwanda’s inaugural class and our ALUSB MBAs will be walking across the graduation stage together for the first time in ALU history. To celebrate this huge milestone, we are pleased to welcome none other than Dr Mohammed “Mo” Ibrahim, the distinguished global entrepreneur and philanthropist, as the keynote speaker at the 2021 graduation ceremony.

The undergraduate and MBA programmes align on the notion that the learning experience is designed to harness the characteristics essential for creating a mission-based life of impact and purpose. Dr Ibrahim’s leadership journey at both national and international levels has epitomised the kind of impact that we hope generations of African Leadership University graduates will have on the continent and in the world. We are honoured that he will join us in celebrating this milestone for our institution!

About Mo Ibrahim

Dr Ibrahim is the Founder and Chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation which he established in 2006 to support good governance and exceptional leadership on the African continent.

Sudanese-born, Dr Ibrahim has a distinguished business career. In 1989 he founded Mobile Systems International (MSI), a world leading cellular consulting and software provider and in 1998, Celtel International, one of Africa’s leading mobile telephone companies which pioneered mobile services in Africa and was sold to Zain in 2005.

Dr Ibrahim is also Founding Chairman of Satya Capital Limited, a private equity fund focused on Africa and Chairman of TPG-Satya, a Joint African Investment Alliance.

About the graduands

Our MBA cohort is called “Ubuntu”, known for their spirit of oneness/togetherness, supporting each other and other cohorts. They are a diverse class, represented by 18 countries across the continent, and a pioneer one, with 3 new businesses started during the pandemic.

Our Undergraduate Cohort is known as the Trailblazers for having taken the initiative of being the first adopters in joining a brand new university. Students from 3 different programmes will be graduating in this cohort, which is also an entrepreneurial one, with quite a few different successful ventures.

The graduation ceremony will take place on July 24th, 2021 and will be live-streamed to our community across the world. Join us and let’s celebrate this milestone together!
