There’s a bigger story to be told about Africa

Emily Kinuthia ’22 is a marketing and communications guru that’s currently serving as the General Manager of Marketing, Communications and Citizenship at NCBA Group. But above all, Emily is a storyteller with a passion for Africa.

We’ve had the privilege of sitting down with Emily to learn more about her decision to pursue an MBA at ALUSB and the importance of authentic African storytelling.

You can find a summary of some highlights from Emily’s interview below.  Scroll down for the full video interview.

On the ALUSB MBA

“I was in search of an MBA programme that would be suited to my background and I was interested in doing something relevant to my industry and market. I felt that an African MBA would actually serve that particular need and enable me to have an impact in Africa.”

On the importance of authentic storytelling

“Until the lion learns to write, the story will always glorify the hunter. The African stories have not been told, and the ones that are told are not told authentically. I strongly believe that the biggest reason we have that challenge is because the people telling the stories are not necessarily African.”

“The story that needs to be told about Africa is not a story about our past. There’s a bigger story to be told.” – Emily Kinuthia ’22.
