Dr Emmett Tracy
Professor of Management and Finance
Emmett Tracy is the Professor of Management and Finance at the African Leadership University School of Business (ALUSB).
Prior to joining African Leadership University, Dr. Tracy served as Dean of Hult International Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he also served as Programme Dean for the Finance Program and Chair of the Finance Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Tracy has pioneered strategic and operational improvements in the IT, Real Estate and Education sectors. Outside of Academia, Dr. Tracy has held the positions of CEO at a machine-learning platform, Finance and Strategy Consultant at a real estate holding company in New York City, and Advisory Council Member on Uniform Adjusted Financial Reporting Standards. His focus on practical, data-driven engagements with international corporate partners has created numerous opportunities with and for Fortune 500 companies.
Academically, Dr. Tracy’s research centres on the societal, cultural, and educational impact of cultural contact in diverse, multilingual communities. Dr. Tracy received his BA from Williams College, United States of America, PhD from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and EMBA from INSEAD, France.

Dr Ruwayne Kock
Head of Leadership,
ALU School of Business
Dr. Ruwayne Kock is an international people management specialist, with an outstanding 25-year track record of delivering results across national, regional, and global multinational companies. He has extensive global experience in talent management, leadership development, executive coaching, organisation development, change management, and learning across markets such as Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
Dr. Kock is a registered Industrial Psychologist with broad research interests in organisational behaviour, management, and organisation studies. He holds a Doctorate in Commerce in the field of Industrial Psychology from College of Business and Economics, University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Dr. Kock’s research underwrites his empirical and practical understandings of characteristics that enable marginalised professionals to be their very best selves at work.

Chidi Afulezi
Head Faculty, Entrepreneurship and Innovation,
ALU School of Business
Chidi Afulezi’s personal mission is simple – Inform, educate, entertain, and tackle big problems. He is a product guy and digital insurgent, with a day job as co-founder of aKoma Media, a “storytelling as a service” network of creative hubs and platforms for African creative entrepreneurs. Amplify, a paid fellowship programme for African content creators, is one of the products of aKoma led by Mr. Afulezi. As the founder of redKola Digital, he is a highly sought out product management and digital transformation consultant and trainer, working with senior and middle management at companies such as United Technologies, ALU, Home Depot, Equity Group Foundation, CNN, Delta Airlines, and the World Health Organisation.
Prior to eEMBArking on his entrepreneurial path, Mr. Afulezi served in an assortment of product executive roles at AT&T, Sony Music, Time Warner, and Turner Broadcasting. He has received an Emmy for Turner’s Team Coco application, and led the product development of CNN’s mobile web and native applications. Mr. Afulezi earned bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering, from New York University. He received his EMBA in Finance and Marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Mufeed Rawashdeh
Faculty for Accounting and Finance
Dr. Mufeed Rawashdeh has extensive academic experience. For over twenty years, he has taught accounting & finance for both undergraduate & postgraduate students in North America, North Africa, China and the Middle East. Dr. Rawashdeh publishes regularly, most notably in the Financial Review, Journal of American Academy of Business, Applied Financial Economic Letter and Management Accounting Quarterly.
Dr. Rawashdeh served as the Dean of the Faculty of Finance & Accounting at University of Wollongong in Dubai for different periods and as Director of Finance and General Manager of a UAE project company in eastern coast of India. He has been involved in management consulting work and many in-house and public training courses in accounting and finance for executive and senior management levels in the Arabian Gulf & MENA countries ( e.g. United Technology, Majed Alfuttaim).
Dr. Rawashdeh is currently a full time accounting & finance faculty at Hult International Business school, where he was voted professor of the year by EEMBA & EMBA students in both campuses (Dubai and Shanghai) for the last three years.
Dr. Rawashdeh earned his PhD in Business Administration-Accounting, and EMBA from St. Louis University, Missouri. He is a certified management accountant and a certified financial manager with the Institute of management accountants, USA.

Gonzalo Chavez
Visiting Professor of Finance
Dr. Gonzalo Chavez, who originally started off as a mechanical engineer with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, is an EMBA and earned his PhD in Financial Economics. Dr. Chavez, who currently serves as the Dean of the Business School at Hult, contributed as faculty in schools such as ITAM in Mexico, Adolfo Ibanez in Chile, and Instituto de Empresa in Spain. In all these schools, he earned numerous teaching excellence awards.
Since the time he joined Hult, in 2013 as a Professor of Finance, Dr. Chavez has been voted by students Professor of the Year for his work in the MIB program. For the last three years, he has also been voted Professor of the Year by Executive EMBAs in Dubai. As a researcher he has published in journals such as The Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Accounting and Research and others. His consulting work involved Firm Valuation, Value Creation, Risk Hedging with Derivative Instruments, and Market Microstructure.

Nawtej Dosanjh
Faculty for Operations,
Strategy and HR Management
As the global dean at Hult International Business School, a multi-campus institution with locations in London, Dubai, Shanghai, New York, Boston, and San Francisco, Dr Dosanjh blended his research in ambidextrous leadership with leadership practices to transform Hult as a global benchmark for the creation and delivery of business management education worldwide.
Overseeing 2000 post graduate students, over 200 faculty and 100 administrators, Dr. Dosanjh led the turnaround of the School to its first ever positive net promotor score (NPS) by instilling a relentless drive on high quality and curricular excellence. His impact as a mentor and leader increased the academic rigour at Hult, and this achieved the design of eight new specialisations and an external partnership programme offering students the opportunity to solve real-time business problems.
Dr. Dosanjh is currently Vice President at Canada Research Centre (CRC), leaders in the design and delivery of education courses/products that are infused with digital components such Artificial Intelligence (AI) in HRM, Big Data in Strategy, Internet of Things (IoT) in Operations and Supply Chain, and teaching with collaborative tools such in AR, VR and MR.
He was recently one of the keynote speakers for CRC on two programmes – Business Automation and Education 4.0 – at Said Business School, Oxford University. He is also a visiting professor at a number of universities and business schools.

Bill Carney
Faculty for Marketing
Mr. William (Bill) Carney obtained his B.A. in Political Science from Wayne State University while employed with General Motors Corporation. He was subsequently appointed Manager, Fleet and Government Sales, Africa. In this role, over the years he was responsible for developing several automotive assembly agreements, i.e. Tunisia, Morocco, Iran.
He was the first recipient of the General Motors International Fellowship, under which he completed his EMBA at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland. He subsequently joined the faculty of IMD, and was Programme Director of the International Seminar in Industrial Marketing.
Mr. Carney is currently Professor of International Marketing at the Hult International Business School and Adjunct Professor at The Rotterdam School of Management. Prior to this, he was Professor of International Marketing at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain for over two decades where he created a Neuromarketing course, “Massaging the Mind” which was one of the school’s most popular elective courses.
Mr. Carney has been a visiting professor at Thunderbird, the Baltic Management Institute, the University of the West Indies and was Visiting Assistant Professor at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he pursued Ph.D. studies in International Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
He served on the Board of Attila Ventures, a Geneva, then Malta based VC fund, and is currently a Board Member for the Leysin American School in Switzerland and Point Motion Control in North Carolina.
Mr. Carney has provided input on global strategy and innovation to multi-national companies such as Nestle, Danfoss, JTI, Coloplast and numerous others. Mr. Carney is an internationally known consultant and lecturer and has worked with companies large and small in Europe, the U.S., the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. His current research interests include neuromarketing, international trade flows, customer management and the psychology of music.
Mr. Carney is also a successful DJ and producer with numerous credits, including a gold record.

STEPHEN NAICKEN
Faculty of Computing,
African Leadership College
Dr. Stephen Naicken is an Academic Director and Faculty of Computing at the African Leadership College.
In his current role, in addition to academic administration, he is actively exploring the use of data to improve education outcomes through the use of statistical methods, programming, and graph databases. Prior to joining ALU, he was a Research Fellow working on improving mobile network connectivity in football stadiums, which led to the founding of a sports technology startup, TribeHive (since acquired by Incrowd Sports). At TribeHive, he worked closely with a (now) Premier League football club on the development of a mobile app to increase fan engagement and implement new sales channels.
To relax, Stephen can be found watching Bloomberg, staring at the numbers ticking along the screen whilst wearing a hat and sunglasses.

DEQO MOHAMED
Visiting Lecturer
CEO, Dr Hawa Abdi Foundation
Dr. Deqo Aden Mohamed is a Somalia-born obstetrician-gynaecologist who is CEO of the Dr Hawa Abdi Foundation. She earned an MD in Moscow in 2000 and was an OB-GYN resident in Russia until 2003. Deqo continually traveled back to Somalia during work holidays to serve internally displaced people in Mogadishu. She moved to America as a refugee in 2003 and gained extensive experience working in health care. She became a naturalised American citizen in 2008. Dr. Mohamed worked with MSF (Doctors Without Borders) from 2008 to 2010 in Somalia during the measles outbreak in the country, she also led the MSF team for vaccination of over 14,000 children under 5.
Today, she works full time on the ground in Somalia. She leads all operations in the Hawa Abdi Village in Lower Shabelle, while ensuring the safety of the 300 families who have found permanent shelter in the community. She leads the 400-bed Dr. Hawa Abdi General Hospital, the Waqaf-Diblawe Primary School, a women’s education center, and a smart farming agriculture project. She simultaneously manages the administrative aspects of the Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation as CEO of the organisation in the United States. She also delivers lectures at different universities in Somalia.
Deqo is the co-founder of Somalia Cancer Society where she actively raises awareness about cancer. Currently she has been selected to sit on the board of Fursad Fund, which raises money to rebuild Somalia and create jobs for Somali Youth by Somali people around the globe. She also advises on reproductive health at the Ministry of Health Somalia. She was awarded Glamour Women of the Year 2010 and Black Girls Rock at BET at 2012. Besides her work, Deqo regularly attends conferences and speaks on behalf of DHAF and on Somalia. She has been an invited guest speaker at the World Forum on Human Rights in Brasilia, Brazil, and participated at a ceremony on kidney diseases in Chennai, India. Deqo has been featured on media outlets such as TED, the Leonard Lopate Show, and the Daily Beast. Deqo received an honorary degree from Chatham University as a Doctor of Public Service.

GBENGA OYEBODE

Founder, Aluko & Oyebode
Gbenga Oyebode founded Aluko & Oyebode, one of Nigeria’s top law firms, and is currently the Managing Partner. Oyebode was also one of the founding investors in MTN Nigeria and still serves on its board.
Oyebode has developed significant experience in project finance, corporate law, energy and natural resources, telecommunications and aviation law. Oyebode served as Chairman of the board of Access Bank, and currently serves as the Chairman of Okomu Oil Palm PLC and of The Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc. He is also one of the most successful real estate investors in Nigeria. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of IFE and his masters in law from the University of Pennsylvania in the USA.

STEVE OKEYO

Managing Director, Mobile, Telkom Kenya
Steve Okeyo has over 20 years’ experience in country-level business leadership, world-wide change management, strategy and commercial operations.
Steve is currently Managing Director, Mobile for Telkom Kenya. Until 2018, he was Director for Sales and Operations at Safaricom where he was responsible for leading a division of 1,400 people to achieve $5 million dollars revenue daily. Before that, he was Director for Sales Force Effectiveness at Lafargeholcim in Paris, a commercial change management responsibility spanning 60 countries across all continents.
Steve built most of his career at The Coca-Cola Company where, for ten years, he held different senior roles in Marketing, commercial operations and General Management in East and Central African countries, including the Indian Ocean Islands. He is currently a Consulting Partner at Ignition Consortium in Nairobi, where they bring their global thinking and local solutions to help companies on commercial transformation challenges (from strategy through execution and results).
He holds a master’s degree in business from USIU-Africa in Nairobi and a bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nairobi. He is a graduate of the Executive Leadership program at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France and is a certified Executive coach.

PAULO GOMES

Paulo Gomes is a global business leader, active environmentalist and a key political actor in Guinea Bissau.
Co-Founder of New African Capital Partners, Paulo has an acute knowledge of the politics and policies of Africa that he developed through his political engagement, support to several governments and as an Executive Director of the World Bank. He has also founded the firm Paulo Gomes and Partners is the natural outcome of years advising governments and businesses on strategic investments as well as years on serving on boards of firms such as AFIG, Asky Airlines and Ecobank.
A founder of the South East Asia-Africa Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Advisory Board his business reach touched all continents and interests, Paulo is also a senior advisor to PIL Group.
Paulo holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from ILERI, Paris and a Masters Degree from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

FRANCIS DANIELS

Francis Daniels has over 15 years experience investing in Africa. He is a director of Africa Opportunity Partners and the investment manager of the Africa Opportunity Fund, a closed-end investment company traded on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange. He holds an LL.B degree from the University of Ghana, an LL.M degree from the University of Toronto, and an LL.M (Corporations) degree from New York University Law School.

TAYO OVIOSU

Tayo Oviosu is the founder and CEO of Pagatech Ltd, a mobile financial services company based out of Nigeria. Prior to founding Pagatech, Oviosu was with Cisco, where he was responsible for Strategy, Acquisitions, and Private Equity Investment across multiple technology sectors.
Tayo earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Southern California. He also has a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford.

BILL EGBE

Former President, Coca Cola South Africa
William (Bill) Egbe is the Group Director, Sustainability, Strategy & Business Planning for the Coca-Cola Company’s Eurasia & Africa Group (92 countries covering Africa, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Russia and the former Soviet Union States). He is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Bill was formerly the President of Coca-Cola South Africa and Head of Pan-African Initiatives for Coca-Cola. He held these roles for 5 years. Prior to this, Bill was briefly the Group Business Unit President for Coca-Cola Africa, a role where he had general management responsibility for Coca-Cola’s business in sub-Saharan Africa.
He has also previously spent 2 years as the President of Coca-Cola East and Central Africa–based in Nairobi, Kenya. Bill has more than 23 years of international experience in the fast-moving consumer goods and telecommunications industries; experience obtained on 4 continents in manufacturing, finance and marketing. More than 18 years of this experience has been in general management positions.

SHINGAI MUTASA

Executive Chairman, TA Holdings
Mr Mutasa co-founded Venture Finance, an investment vehicle that bought into TA Holdings with the objective of turning it into a continental investment group. He is also Chairman of FMI Holdings, a privately held investment company formed in 1990. The company is the major shareholder of Joina Development Company, an infrastructure and commercial real estate developer. Shingai Mutasa is also a Senior Advisor to Africa Platform Capital where he applies a wealth of acquisition and operational experience within the ever-evolving environment of ZiEMBAbwe, together with the broader southern and eastern regions of Africa.
Shingai is the CEO of Masawara PLC, a business he founded in the early years of ZiEMBAbwe’s independence in the 1980’s. Today the company’s activities include Insurance, Hotels, Property development, Agro-chemicals and Telecommunications. Operations are based in ZiEMBAbwe, Botswana and Uganda. The company successfully listed on the AIM market of London in 2011. Mr Mutasa graduated from the University College London with a B.Sc. (Econs) Hons degree in 1980. He returned to ZiEMBAbwe after completing his studies and commenced upon a successful career in commodity trading and marketing through a family owned company.
