African Leadership University’s MBA Chairman’s Scholarship recognises excellence in leadership. Candidates are shortlisted for their outstanding professional achievements, pan-African ideals and for the significant impact that they are making to society. This year’s Chairman’s Scholar is no exception. ALU School of Business is delighted to confirm Dorcas Onyango as this year’s MBA Chairman’s Scholar.
Dorcas Onyango is Head of Sustainability for Coca-Cola Southern & East Africa Business Unit. In this role, she will embed sustainability into the business and leverage Coca-Cola’s value chain to generate shared value for the business and communities in need.
Skilled in strategic planning, project management, strategic communications and stakeholder engagement management, and project management, Dorcas has over 15 years working experience in Development, Marketing, Advertising and Corporate Communications, Sustainability and Change Management functions. Prior to her current role and as the Director for Programs and Partnerships within The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF), she led complex, multi geography community upliftment projects. On behalf of Coca-Cola she stewarded the efforts of Coca-Cola and its partners from civil society and government to implement water, health and youth empowerment projects as well as 5by20, a global initiative by The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) to empower 5 million women by 2020 through inclusive business strategies. She implemented Coca-Cola’s signature Water Sanitation and Hygiene program, Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN) and was instrumental in the scaling up efforts of Project Last Mile (PLM).
Dorcas is passionate about Development, Education, Women & Youth Empowerment. Her vision is an Africa where young people are realizing their potential irrespective of their circumstances. Therefore, she is actively involved in promoting development in the rural community where she comes from in Western Kenya for example, she established and, supports a scholarship program that is removing financial and non-finical barriers to education for very poor students who value education but lack the financial resources to attend and complete a full cycle of education; she serves on The Board of Akili Dada, a leadership incubator working to increase African women’s access to decision-making. She mentors young people by sharing her knowledge and experiences at youth leadership forums and by mentoring young people and helping them connect them to opportunities.
Dorcas graduated from University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing option). She studied Advertising and Marketing Communications Management at the Red and Yellow School, Cape Town, South Africa and, holds a certificate in Business Sustainability Management from Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, part of the University of Cambridge.
Dorcas joins the ALUSB MBA Class of 2020 this July.
